Bringing Homeowners and Buyers Together
Designing an Intuitive Platform for Direct Home Sales
THE PROBLEM
In today's housing market, buying or selling a home often involves complex processes, high costs, and reliance on intermediaries like real estate agents. These factors make the experience daunting and inaccessible for many people. There's a clear need for a more streamlined, user-friendly platform that allows buyers and sellers to connect directly, simplifying transactions, reducing costs, and increasing transparency.
MY ROLE
As a key contributor to this startup project, I take on multiple roles to drive the development of an innovative housing platform:
-
UX Researcher: Conducting in-depth research to understand the needs, frustrations, and behaviors of both buyers and sellers in the housing market.
-
UX Designer: Translating research insights into intuitive design solutions, creating wireframes and prototypes to map out seamless user journeys.
-
UI Designer: Crafting engaging and accessible visual designs using Figma, ensuring the interface is both aesthetically pleasing and easy to navigate.
-
Requirements Analyst: Defining and documenting functional requirements, collaborating closely with the development team to ensure accurate implementation that meets both user needs and legal standards.

UNDERSTANDING THE USER
To build a platform that truly serves its users, I engage in comprehensive UX research:
-
Competitive Analysis: Evaluating existing housing platforms to identify market gaps and opportunities for innovation.
-
Stakeholder Interviews: Speaking with industry professionals, including real estate agents and recent home buyers, to gather valuable insights into the challenges and expectations within the market.
-
User Personas: Developing detailed personas to represent our target users, keeping the design process user-centered.
-
Journey Mapping: Mapping out the typical buying and selling processes to pinpoint pain points and areas for improvement.
This research lays the foundation for a design that is both user-friendly and meets the real needs of our audience.

BREAKING DOWN THE PROCESS
The project's process involves several key steps:
-
Research & Discovery: Gathering data through interviews and market analysis to understand user needs and market opportunities.
-
Ideation: Collaborating with the cross-functional team to brainstorm features and functionalities that address identified user needs.
-
Wireframing: Creating low-fidelity wireframes to establish the basic layout and user flow of the platform.
-
Prototyping: Developing high-fidelity prototypes in Figma to visualize the design and facilitate user testing.
-
User Testing: Conducting usability tests to gather feedback and identify areas for refinement.
-
Design Iteration: Refining the designs based on user feedback, enhancing usability and engagement.
-
Documentation: Assembling detailed requirement documents to guide the development team.
-
Collaboration with Development: Working closely with developers to ensure the design is implemented accurately, considering technical constraints and legal requirements.

LESSONS LEARNED
As we are still in the early stages of the project, I am continually learning about the importance of adaptability and user-centered design. The initial research reinforces how critical it is to ground our design decisions in real user needs and to remain flexible as those needs evolve
